Student mobility

UAL is committed to developing and promoting opportunities for UAL students to study and work abroad as part of their university experience. Students can study at a wide range of partner universities abroad as well as undertake a traineeship during the course of their degree whilst benefitting from either an Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme grant.

UAL also welcomes incoming exchange students through the Erasmus+ programme.

From September 2021, UAL students can be funded for their exchange or work placement abroad through the UK government's newly announced Turing Scheme. Check out the 'Outgoing Students' page for more information.

Erasmus and Turing exchanges and placements continue during 2021 and are considered as essential travel and education during the pandemic.

For students who want to take part in an exchange to study at UAL.
Work Placements and Traineeships

Some programmes at UAL give students the opportunity to undertake a work placement/traineeship during their degree.
Partner institutions

Students wishing to study in another institution must first check if an exchange agreement has been signed between UAL and this institution.

Student placement: Kewal Gala at Marc Jacobs, New York City

While studying for his BA in Fashion Pattern Cutting at London College of Fashion, Kewal Gala did a placement as an atelier intern at Marc Jacobs in New York for 6 months.
UAL student Gaia Gabbai

Student placement: Gaia Gabbai at EnsAD, Paris

Gaia Gabbai, a BA (Hons) Textile Design student at Chelsea College of Arts completed a study exchange at Ecole Des Arts Decoratifs Paris (EnsAD), Paris, France from September 2019 and January 2020.
Student placement: Nadya Araia at Hunkemöller

Nadya Araia, a BA Fashion Buying and Merchandising student at London College of Fashion UAL spent 12 months on a buying internship at Hunkemöller in The Netherlands from August 2019 to August 2020. Watch and read about her experience.
Student exchange: Wei-En Chen at Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen

Wei-En is now in his third year of BA Graphic and Media Design at London College of Communication, UAL. From February to June 2020 he took an Erasmus student mobility exchange to Copenhagen, attending the Royal Danish Academy.
Student exchange: Xiao Liangzi at Kyoto Seika University

Xiao Liangzi, a BA Fine Art Photography student at Camberwell College of Arts, took part in a 6 month study exchange at Kyoto Seika University in Japan from April to October 2020.
